IT.helpdesk@tntsupermarket.com

Navigating the benefits and risks of Artificial Intelligence.

Team,

In recent months, Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, such as ChatGPT, have attracted widespread usage in generating content, documents, and so much more. As we continue to embrace technological advancements for our business needs, it is important that we remain vigilant about data security. Recently, we have witnessed an increasing reliance on ChatGPT for various tasks. Like all technology, these tools can help us immensely in our day to day lives, but they do also pose risks.

For example, there have been instances in the news of employees uploading company data and Excel spreadsheets into AI tools that perform data analysis. Data compromised included sales data, product information, and financial forecasts. It cannot be stressed enough that confidential company information must not be uploaded to any online AI tools.

Doing so not only compromises our organization’s data integrity, but also exposes us to potential breaches, legal liabilities, financial losses, and damage to our reputation. We must all be proactive in protecting our company’s interests and the trust that our customers and partners have placed in us. Data security is not just an IT issue; it is everyone’s responsibility.

Another example is the use of ChatGPT. ChatGPT is trained to produce human-like text answers and can read and summarize vast amounts of data from the Internet. While it can provide valuable insights, it does pose a risk of unauthorized disclosure of company and third-party confidential information.

For example, if we input an email into ChatGPT for help on a response, everything in the email is now public information. This is a big problem if the email has company information, vendor information, or information about our customers such as names or contact information. Therefore, it is important that we do not input any confidential or proprietary information into ChatGPT.

As always, when in doubt, err on the side of caution. If you have any questions or concerns about data security, don’t hesitate to reach out to your manager, or our IT hotline for guidance at Ext. 8400 or IT.helpdesk@tntsupermarket.com.

As technology continues to evolve, we have many opportunities to leverage these tools as an organization to help us become more efficient and effective. By exercising caution and good judgment, we can take a balanced and measured approach in integrating AI into our daily lives.

Thank you all for doing your part in ensuring our confidential information remains confidential.

Time is precious, so reach for the skies

Let me tell you a story about the accelerated growth of an outstanding young lady at our store.

I met Cassie last June at our store's job fair. A recent university graduate, she was shy and had a certain bookishness about her. When I found out she applied to be the Produce Cooler Keeper, I felt a bit uneasy. Could a delicate girl like her take on a position that required much heavy lifting? Any doubts I had subsequently dissipated. Cassie started off in a junior position in the Produce Department, she took it upon herself to continuously learn. Her seemingly weak shoulders were strong and powerful, you could see her in the front and back of the store, always busying about. Her meticulous work attitude, steady work style won her recognition from colleagues and the Department Head. In a year, she was promoted to Supervisor, and then Assistant Department Head, becoming an indispensable part of the store.

Cassie provided full support when LH store opened. Since she lived quite far from the store, she often left early and returned home late, but not once did she complain. It seems like our little seedling have sprouted from the fertile soil at T&T, and is growing towards the sun!

The secret behind "Lead in fresh"

Pricing and freshness are the two main deciding factors for whether customers purchase our produce. Which is why ensuring freshness means ensuring sales performance. Adhering to our values of "customers is #1" and "lead in fresh", besides ensuring produce are fresh when we buy and sell, there is a little-known key factor, that is ensuring the quality of produce in our inventory.

60% of the annual produce sales came from the warehouse in the western region. This translates to 3,500 containers/ 70,000 pallets/ 2,600,000 cases of produce. The numbers are astounding. To ensure the quality, we must rely on Joe and Nicky, our Produce QC team. They check the produce in the warehouse every day, carry out inspections, test for sweetness and firmness, record product grading, and share the result with the Merchandising Dept. and Operations Dept. as a reference for decision-making. They have to monitor on any given day range from 16,000 to 32,000 cases of produce.

With a large inventory of produce that can go bad quickly, it is crucial to accurately gauge the quality of the inventory and respond timely, all of which can be quite stressful. But with years of experience in addition to their strong responsibility, Joe and Nicky always do their best. They are truly worthy of praise.

At the same time, I would like to thank the warehouse team for the support to the QC team that leads the improvement of the Produce Department.

We hope when everyone has our fresh produce in hand, they will remember everyone who has contributed behind the scenes.

Guarding the last checkpoint

Our cashiers have a sacred duty. They are guarding the store's final checkpoint. They must be accurate and kind when helping customers check out so that customers can leave happy and satisfied.

We often have cashiers who use their keen eyes, strong acuity and observation skills to successfully discover and prevent attempted thefts or dishonest behavior. We are truly grateful to these colleagues who have gone above and beyond to complete their tasks.

But on the other hand, there are also cashiers who violate integrity by taking advantage of their positions. Someone pretended to scan products when serving their friends and family, when in fact they never scanned those items; someone voided the scanned items, when those products were taken out of the store; someone didn't even bother to pretend and just directly placed unpaid goods into customer’s shopping bags; and someone repeatedly scanned price codes of cheaper products in place of the higher priced goods, for example scanning the price code for carrots in place of the price code for green grapes.

These cashiers not only failed their duties, but also knowingly broke the law and participated in the theft. The company will not tolerate, and in addition to firing, will also report these incidents to the police.

The checkout area is a vital part of the store, and cashiers act as the inspectors of this area. Please always remember your mission, uphold integrity, and help guard the store's final checkpoint. Thank you!
