Voice of T&T: A Magical Night
Dear T&T Family,
One of the biggest highlights this year was our beloved “Voice of T&T” event. We rented a big stage, fixed the lighting, brought the food, but the real shining stars of the night were our talented T&T contestants.
There’s something powerful about being on stage – it is a magical place where title doesn’t matter, and any colleague could own the mic. Check out these brave souls below. Their performances left everybody in the audience with goosebumps, making us wonder how these incredible voices had been hidden all this time. It was beautiful watching everyone come out and cheer for contestants from their stores. So many of you got creative too! The “broccoli bouquet” was so creative that even Cindy Lee wanted to come onstage for a photo with it.

Congratulations to Ray Wang from Store Support Center, Emma Song from Lougheed, Titus Cheung from Langley, and June Liao from Lansdowne, for winning singing awards that special night.

At T&T, our purpose has always been to bring Food for Joy, but joy comes in so many different forms. On this particular evening, it was music that brought us together. Events like this are a true representation of “work-life happy” – those moments when we can step away from our everyday tasks and have fun together as one big T&T family.

We will make the next edition of Voice of T&T even bigger, and we’ll open up the stage to more of you. I encourage everyone to sign up and participate. A big thank you to everyone who organized the event and gave us a truly magical night. Just like food, music brings us all together too.

15-year employee helps prevent $1,000 theft
(Ottawa Store) Cashier Dept. Lila Dong
One evening in April, when our employees were busily preparing to close up for the day, a customer suddenly rushed to the front door, attempting to bypass the checkout area with a cart full of merchandise worth nearly $1,000. Our Store Assistant Mr. Yang noticed right at this crucial moment and rushed over to stop this person from leaving with the shopping cart.
Despite facing a customer who attempted to ram the barriers with the cart and forcefully leave, Mr. Yang remained calm and firm. He tried to persuade the person to head over to the cashier's to pay for the items, while also calling for support from the service desk. Throughout the entire ordeal, he held tightly onto the shopping cart, showing both determination and professionalism. In the end, this customer who attempted a “zero-dollar purchase” had no choice but to leave empty-handed.
This year marks Mr. Yang’s 15th anniversary since joining the T&T family. He has always worked in the Cashier's Department and is well-loved by everyone. They all affectionately call him Uncle Yang. With his vast experience and strong sense of responsibility, he is a vital and indispensable backbone of the team. When a colleague expresses gratitude, he always responds with a smile, saying, “No worries, kid!”
One thing worth mentioning is that Mr. Yang's wife also works at OW store’s Produce Department. They each work diligently in their respective roles and are the model family on our team.
In his everyday role, Mr. Yang fully embodies T&T’s corporate spirit of “Be accountable and be the best we can be” through his actions.

The power of silent protection

Frankie, a frontline employee at the MG store’s Cashier's Department, consistently shines through with his exceptional performance in his role. He approaches each task with enthusiasm, and always gives his very best. Beyond excelling in his role, he’s always willing to assist other departments, showing great teamwork without concern for whether it's part of his duties.
Frankie never lets his guard down when it comes to maintaining store security. Whenever there's a need, he always proactively supports the Asset Protection department to help prevent theft. He has a particularly keen awareness when it comes to suspicious individuals or unusual activity, often noticing unusual situations right off the bat and always promptly notifies Asset Protection, helping us create a safer and more orderly environment.
Additionally, Frankie possesses keen observational skills, he can detect many details that are often easily overlooked, such as equipment malfunctions, damaged lighting or other facility issues. Once he discovers these issues, he will proactively notify the Department Head, demonstrating his strong sense of responsibility towards his job and positive work attitude.
To have a colleague like Frankie who is dedicated, passionate and full of positive energy is a blessing and source of pride for our team. Frankie, you are amazing. We give you a big thumb-up!

Requesting leave requires more than a verbal notice
HR Dept.
This colleague apparently verbally informed the Department Head about their plan to take time off but did not officially submit their request on the company's HR system UKG, and also did not confirm whether they got the Department Head’s approval before going off on their vacation. This sudden staff shortage caught the entire department off guard, and it was especially challenging to reassign duties during the busy holiday season. The entire operation was affected as a result, and other colleagues were forced to take on extra workload. In the end, this colleague in question faced disciplinary action.
The company fully supports our colleagues’ right to take vacation, provided that it doesn't disrupt business operations. However, leave cannot be taken based on verbal notice alone, the standard leave application process must be followed. All leave requests must be submitted through UKG and approved by your Department Head before booking your flight or finalizing any travel plans. Following the proper process ensures your leave is officially approved, gives your team time to prepare for your absence, and allows you to enjoy a truly stress-free break.
