萬一有壓力想辭職,請先和主管談一談。


我們同事的離職率,是同行中最低的之一,平均服務年資長達10年。雖然如此,偶而還是會有人因工作上有壓力,以為換一個新工作就可以緩解,而在主管毫不知情的情況下,就貿然遞出辭職信。由於沒有開誠布公事先溝通,常常變得無法挽回。


每個人都難免會有心情上的起起伏伏,有時開心,偶而沮喪,重要的是要管理好自己的壓力。其實,壓力是成長的開始,有壓力是正常的,能激勵自己表現得更好、做事更有成效,甚至能因而步步高升,讓生活更充實。


但如壓力已來到臨界點,影響到工作和生活,那就應該勇敢地健康面對。我們華人通常有壓力就藏在心裡自己頂著,不想讓別人知道,甚至都不跟自己的老公、老婆或家人說,只憋在肚子裡,這樣總有一天會揹不動。


我的建議是,就算有壓力,也無須輕言辭職,應先打開對話的大門,跟主管談一談——哪怕壓力正是來自你的主管。因為主管看到的會比你多,也許能幫你調整下一步。就曾有一位同事因要搬家到亞省而辭職,主管知道了,說,我們在亞省也有店呀,結果公司甚至付了搬家費。

過去這幾年,我也收到過好多次這種突然放在我桌上嚇人一跳的辭職信。我非常遺憾,因為如果能先找我談一談,情況可能早已改變。但由於沒有先打開對話的大門,將壓力一直憋在自己心裡太久太久了,心已經不在工作上,決心已下,心已經走了,我只得接受。

最帥氣的BBQ師傅 — Raymond Ho


高貴林廚食部的Raymond師傅來自香港,有40年以上豐富的燒臘經驗。他每天以專業技術精心調製滷水,認真製作所有燒臘產品,嚴格把關產品的質量,使BBQ產品廣受顧客喜愛,為廚食部贏得非常好的口碑!

去年年尾,一個烤爐壞了,維修零件因暴雪天氣遲遲未到,導致在有大量火雞訂單的重要節慶中,僅剩一個烤爐可用,對生產造成相當大的困難。然而,Raymond師傅不僅沒抱怨,還迎難而上,主動要求早上5:30上班,提早生產,巧妙地安排每種產品的出爐時間,確保有足夠的產品銷售,每天努力生產出將近30隻火雞。這段期間,Raymond師傅都起早貪黑,在平安夜為部門BBQ檔口的營業額創下佳績。他和外場服務團隊緊密合作,按時交付所有訂單。最後,部門在耶誕週更打破週銷售記錄。


Raymond師傅勇於承擔的工作態度贏得了大家的尊重,充分展示了大統華「贏的文化」。我們廚食部全賴眾多像Raymond師傅的好員工,讓大家的凝聚力越來越強,生意蒸蒸日上﹗

一鳴驚人的IT


2022年SC的最後一次Huddle,是IT部門主持的耶誕派對,IT小夥伴們竟然一口氣給大家唱了五首歌,而且每一首歌詞都經過精心的創意修改,唱出了單身狗和打工人的心聲,實在讓大家驚艷!沒想到IT部門的同事在表演方面也這麽有才華和誠意!


事實上,當天的主持人Sean是在兩週前才接到任務要主持耶誕派對,真是時間緊、任務重,但幸好他得到了整個部門的全力支持,每一位IT同事都參加了表演,包括燈光、音響和演唱。連本來從不離開座位的IT Help Desk同事David, Mex和Ben,也在確保至少有一個人在座位的前提下,當表演進行到該自己上場時就迅速衝上台。


至於最精彩的歌詞部分,是五位同事用週末的時間來選歌、構思主題和改編歌詞。大家練唱的那兩天恰逢下大雪,部分同事因路況在家工作,因此有的在線上、有的在線下,一起克服困難完成了練唱。

經過所有人的努力,IT團隊最終為大家帶來了無比歡樂的五首歌,Sean也嚐到了一夜爆紅的滋味!在這個耶誕派對裏,IT部門展現了至少六條「贏的文化」:創新求變、互助合作、權責分明、獨立思考、勇於承擔、集思廣益。感謝IT,絕對要爲你們喝彩!

偽造文書絕不可取


有一名員工,時不時會請病假,也會提供醫生證明。但很奇怪的是,他交的醫生證明在日期處有塗改,而且不止一次,經過公司向診所確認,醫生從來沒有開過相關證明。


另一名員工,也是經常請病假,他提供的是醫院急診室的醫生證明,但是好多張不同醫生的證明,筆跡卻都一樣,也沒有蓋章,經過公司向醫院確認,這些都是假的醫生證明。


這是過去一年在不同分店發生的遺憾的故事,這兩名員工都被解雇了,因爲偽造醫生證明是很嚴重的違反誠信的行爲,提供虛假文件甚至會構成罪行。最近有則新聞說一名成年女子為了入讀高中,向教育局提供虛假的出生證明,因此被指控犯罪而被捕,大家可以看到偽造文書是多麽嚴重的問題,所以千萬要引以爲戒,杜絕造假。公司保留權利向相關機構核實員工提交文件的真實性,並且不容忍任何造假行為。

Open Up for Conversation Before Deciding on the Career Change


I’m proud to share our turnover is one of the lowest and the average year of service is 10 years, making us a company with the longest tenure in the industry. Nevertheless, any job can have stressful elements, even if you are passionate about what you do. You might even think about changing careers. If the thought crosses your mind, open all doors for conversation and never underestimate a company that will listen, recognize, and promote changes.


Everyone has their own ups and downs in life, sometimes feeling blessed while sometimes unfortunately not, so managing stress is crucial. Going through stress is nothing big but a kick-off of growing up, it motivates people to outperform and work more productively so that their hard work will be easily seen, and it helps them climb up the ladder toward success.

Never keep mum when your stress level reaches a red flag and harms your work and daily life. Chinese tend to self-isolate and avoid embarrassing conversations when encountering stress. Some may even hide their troubles from their husbands, wives, and family members. Carrying all the heavy burdens alone and letting no one take them off their backs will eventually lead to overload.


But here’s my advice, open the door for conversations and talk to your supervisor before quitting the job. Even if the source of stress is right from your supervisor, make sure to have a heart-to-heart sharing with your supervisor or even HR first. They see what you can’t and are able to help debilitate your stress or give you the space and tools to handle that stress with adjustments. One of our T&T employees once handed in a resignation letter only because of the relocation plan to Alberta. “Hey, we also have stores in Alberta,” said the supervisor. We ended up covering the moving fees for this employee.


Over the years, I have been shocked to receive a few sudden and surprising resignation letters. I feel so much regret as things might have changed if they had ever turned to me. I feel so much regret as they kept the stress inside and have gone through heartaches for so long, long enough to the point they could no longer bear the stress. I had no option but to let them go as we both missed the chance to turn the tide before the moment of decision. I had to accept it since the stress had already moved them far away from productivity and T&T.


Open the door for conversations before you quit. Even if you still decide to leave after conversations, at least you feel much more at ease. T&T values every single ambitious employee devoting efforts and making contributions to the company and it’s beyond doubt including you! The Handsome BBQ Master Raymond Ho

CQ Kitchen Chef Raymond who came from Hong Kong has more than 40 years of roasting experience. He skillfully prepares the Chinese marinade everyday and makes each roasted product, and strictly controls the quality of all products. This makes our customers love our BBQ items so much and has helped build a great reputation for the department!

An oven broke down late last year, but the ordered part delivery was delayed due to a snowstorm. It was challenging that we only had one oven to use during the holiday season with a large volume of turkey orders. But Raymond faced it with no complaints and asked to start work at 5:30am to start production early, strategically arranged the production time to ensure there were enough products to sell, and produced nearly 30 turkeys every day. During this period, Raymond worked from dawn to dusk, and helped the BBQ department's session gained success on Christmas Eve. He also worked closely with service staff to complete all orders on time. In the end, the department even broke the weekly sales record during Christmas week.


Raymond's work ethic has earned him the respect of everyone, demonstrating T&T's 'winning culture'. Our Kitchen Department relies on many great staff just like Raymond to boost team cohesion and keep our business booming!

Our IT Department gains overnight fame


When the IT Department hosted a Christmas party during SC's last Huddle in 2022, they performed five songs back-to-back. Everyone was blown away by the creatively rewritten lyrics that perfectly captured the voices of singletons and employees. I never imagined our IT colleagues could be such talented performers!


Sean was tasked to host the party only two weeks prior. Timing was tight, but luckily the entire IT department supported him. All IT staff participated, helped with the lighting, audio and performance. Even IT's Help Desk staff David, Mex and Ben - who never leaves their seats - rushed onstage when it was their turn to perform, all the while ensuring at least one person remained at the Help Desk.


To prepare, five IT colleagues spent the weekend selecting songs, designing the theme and rewriting the lyrics. Their practices coincided with a huge snowstorm, so some of them had to stay home due to road conditions. But they managed to overcome this by practicing together both online and offline.


With the effort of the whole team, we had great joy. Sean even got a taste of overnight fame! During the party, the IT Department showcased at least six 'winning cultures', including “Embrace change”, “Help one another”, “Have a clear sense of ownership”, “Thinking Independently”, “Be accountable” and “Collect everyone’s ideas”. Thank you to our IT team, you deserve to be applauded.

Falsification of documents is inadvisable


There was an employee who would take sick leave from time to time with doctor's notes. What’s strange is that the date on the doctor's notes had clearly been altered, and it happened more than one time. After reaching out to the clinic, they confirmed the doctor never issued these notes.


Another employee who also often took sick leave with doctor’s notes from a hospital's ER, the handwriting on the notes from different doctors were the same and not stamped. After investigating, the hospital confirmed these doctor notes were all fake.


These unfortunate incidents happened last year at different stores. The two employees have since been let go, because forging a doctor's note is a serious breach of integrity. Submitting falsified documents could even constitute a crime. Recently, a woman made the news after submitting a fake birth certificate to the school board in order to study at a high school. She was charged and arrested. This goes to show the gravity of forging and falsifying documents. We should use this as a precautionary tale. The company reserves the right to verify with relevant agencies the authenticity of any documents submitted by employees, and will not tolerate the falsification of documents.
