Preparation prevents calamity
Michelle Ngai – (Deerfoot store) Admin
At around noon on Aug 17, 2024, a customer suddenly felt unwell and collapsed in the dining area. The Administrative Assistant quickly noticed and notified the customer service desk, and the Store Manager and on duty Manager, both certified in first aid, immediately rushed to the scene. The customer was convulsing on the ground, with a large amount of saliva affecting their breathing. After confirming the customer had lost consciousness, the Store Manager asked if the individual was there with anyone and proceeded to put on gloves and a mask and tilted the customer’s head to the side so the saliva could drain, ensuring clear breathing.
Noticing that a bystander had already called 911, the Store Manager asked them to relay the instructions to ensure proper first aid for the unconscious customer. After being shifted onto his side with saliva drained, the individual gradually regained consciousness and became responsive. According to the instructions from 911, the Store Manager asked the customer to remain on their side until paramedics arrived. In the end, the ambulance arrived and transported the customer safely to the hospital.
The Store Manager emphasized that staying calm and professional are crucial in emergencies. Staying calm allowed him to effectively manage the customer's condition before paramedics arrived. Company policy also ensures that trained first-aid staff are always on duty to handle emergencies. This incident underscores the importance of preparedness and highlights T&T's commitment to customer service and safety, truly embodying our "winning culture".
Mutual support and collaboration lead to new achievements
Andy Hung – (Store Support Centre) Kitchen Department
In business, mutual support and collaboration are key to success. Despite a fire, SG store's reopening performance matched that of its grand opening, a remarkable achievement driven by the tireless efforts and teamwork of all departments, helping the store quickly regain momentum and rebuild customer trust.
Reopening wasn't easy, but mutual support and collaboration allowed us to overcome challenges quickly. Whether it's the Merchandising Department quickly restocking to ensure supply, or the store management team's human resource arrangement, these all laid a solid foundation for the reopening. In this environment, everyone became part of a tightly connected team. Through mutual support and collaboration, SG store was able to stand strong in adversity, ultimately achieving outstanding results.
We believe the experience from past challenges will help our team succeed in the US store. Each challenge is a learning opportunity, reinforcing the value of collaboration. By reflecting on these lessons, we can face future challenges in the US with greater confidence.
A reflection on "the pavilion by the river gets the moonlight first"
Human Resources Department
The expression "the pavilion by the river gets the moonlight first" highlights the advantage of proximity in gaining benefits. In our store, employees reserving products for themselves have been a recurring issue. They often use their position to put aside attractive, fresher, popular or scarce items for themselves, leaving customers with fewer choices.
But the more serious issue is that some employees not only reserve products for themselves, colleagues, or their families, but they're also tampering price tags for lower payments. This is in serious violation of our company's integrity principles and will not be tolerated. Besides termination, we also reserve the right to report to the police, which may affect immigration status. Recently, all employees at the store signed a declaration in the HR training system to uphold integrity and acknowledge they understand the consequences of rule violations. We urge everyone to follow these standards.
In our supermarket, exploiting one's position is unacceptable. Please do not reserve products for yourselves, colleagues, family or friends. Employees should shop like any customer, selecting items from shelves to ensure a fair, impartial and orderly shopping environment.
